100 Days of Opposition. What’s Next?
Ukrainian society, divided into two camps of East and West, is actively following today not only the actions of the new government, but also the actions of opposition, as its functioning, as well as the functioning of the government, defines the general condition of democracy and social peace in the country. Its character, degree of consolidation, efficiency of actions, and public confidence have a tremendous impact on the political climate in the country. In what condition does the Ukrainian opposition find itself today?

Historians are sure that the events can be assessed not earlier than in five hundred years after they happened. But even at the distance of half of a century the big is not always visible. Differences of the ethnic, historical, social and religious contexts in which personalities were developed, variety of fortunes, cultures, upbringing and education do not leave any possibility for unambiguous interpretation of the past. It shows up especially clear in conditions of the young democratic state with the undefined state ideology. The last one is a rather strong tool which can be applied not only for suppression and control, but also for “peaceful use” – for cementation, unity and motivation of people and nations, building of the nation of full value on their basis. While Victor Yushchenko was a president, he tried to formulate a national idea. But he staked on the nationalistic ideology which is not supported by 51% of Ukrainians*, mostly by the citizens of the populous regions of the south-east and the centre of the country.

Donetsk - Lviv: the pole of discord or components of success? (Analytical review) Part 2
The last polls show that differences between the major cities of western and eastern regions are not as insurmountable as politicians are trying to convince us. The inhabitants of Lviv and Donetsk expressed unanimity on the issues concerning the problems which they are most worried about. As it turned out - it does not the matter of language or the foreign policy priorities. The main problems are - the growth of prices, inflation, the problems of housing and communal services, and poverty of people (low wages and pensions). The questions of policy worry in both regions no more than 6-7% of the population. Most residents of both cities have expressed patriotism, stressing that Ukraine is a beautiful, strong country, just it went to “botchers”, and could be a great country, if not its leaders. Only 3 - 4% of the inhabitants of Donetsk and Lviv consider Ukraine to be a failed state and a political project *.

While the Party of Regions with unprecedented speed builds vertical structure of power, in the camp of "dissent" has started a real war for the right to form opposition. The leader of "minority" movement Yulia Tymoshenko could not become the only center of crystallization of the opposition and to create the representative opposition block, like a "Power of nation" in 2004. Contrary to expectations, the Party of Regions would not have a worthy political opponent, which would be able to resist the monopolization of power.

And still Ukraine is a unique country. Unique in everything. Convincing proof of what became the first full crisis year, 2009. Many of the "troubles" that had affected the whole world, in Ukraine took place in a special way, often getting the outlines of a close end of the world: the crisis - deeper, the flu - more infectious, bad weather - worse and, most important, unexpectedly than in other countries ... This year we have proved longer than in other countries: in fact it began with the start of the crisis, and end, apparently, with the first round of presidential elections. But first things first.
