PROJECT «KIEV, MAY 2008»

Research was conducted from 14 to 20 May 2008

On May 14-20, 2008 Research & Branding Group specialists held the research of Kiev society opinion in order to find the answers for numerous questions on social-politic aspects before the elections. Data collection was executed with the help of personal interview method. Respondents were chosen according to the quote selection representing adult population 18+ of the capitol according to habitation (district), gender and age. Sum total is 400 people. Expected mistake of the selection is +-2,2%.
Main results of the research are given below:

SITUATION APPRAISAL, LIFE AND SERVICE SATISFACTION  

- For today about one half of the Kievans think that situation in the city has worsened for the last two years, and about 1/3 of respondents do not see any changes at all.
- When assessing some certain life aspects mostly negative balance is observed (discontent predominance). The most obvious discontent predominance (-40%) is observed when assessing the cost of daily use products, clothes, footwear and food (-32%), long term use products (-31%), healthcare facilities (-31%), living conditions (especially – availability of separate and appropriate apartment) (-30%), public transport (-30%).
- The highest rate of satisfaction and positive balance among Kievans (satisfaction predominance) is observed in family relationships (+47%). Working conditions and timeliness of reward got rather positive marks. Never the less Kievans are not satisfied with the salary (-26%).
- Probably, because of the life discontent more than a half of Kievans feel stressed time from time.
- In general almost every third Kievan is satisfied with leisure time and vacation conditions. Talking about leisure time ability opinions have split up: 34% of respondents think, that they have pretty enough time for hobbies and so on, and 33% - have little free time.
- Among different types of free time spending Kievans prefer passive relaxation at home. When free of charge huge number of people (79%) prefer watching television at home and listen to the radio, reading books, news papers and magazines (55%), «hanging around» in Internet and playing video games (28%).
- Omnibus results show that most of the Kievans are rather tolerant to “incomers” from other regions, because they believe that every person is free to pick a place to live and work in, and that a megalopolis like Kiev needs some «new» residents.

ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN

- Most of the residents (74%) are interested in the electoral campaign in some way.
- Almost every third Kievan while choosing a candidate to vote for will pay attention to his/her party belonging.
- Mostly Kievans expect the situation to improve after the elections or not to change considerably at all.
